  • Ming Dynasty Buddha Statue Discovered in East China

Archeologists in east China's Jiangxi Province recently discovered a Buddha statue which dates back hundreds of years to the Ming Dynasty (1368–1644 AD). The well-preserved statue was found in a reservoir in the province's Fuzhou City. A lower water level recently revealed a Buddha head and the top of an archway which was visible just above the water surface. "The exposed Buddha head belongs to Shakyamuni (the Gautama Buddha), who sits on a lotus flower. As we can see, the Buddha statue is well preserved. We also discovered two slants of temple roofs on the cliff face. That means there must have been temple constructions here in the early Ming Dynasty," said Xu Changqing, director of Jiangxi Provincial Institute of Archeology. The archeologists also detected remnants of temple constru...

The Qiantang River (Chinese: 钱塘江) or Qian River is an East Chinese river that originates in the border region of Anhui and Jiangxi provinces. Its upper stretch is called the Xin'an River, and the middle stretch the Fuchun River (富春). An important commercial artery, it runs for 459 kilometers (285 mi) through Zhejiang, passing through the provincial capital Hangzhou before flowing into the East China Sea via Hangzhou Bay. The river was the southern terminus of the ancient Grand Canal that links five major rivers in China from north to south, and enables water-borne traffic to travel inland from Hangzhou as far north as Beijing. The Qiantang was historically known as the Zhe River or Zhejiang, which gives the name to the province. The river and the Hangzhou Bay are known for the world's larg...

The archeologists also detected remnants of temple construction under the water using sonar technology. The remnants could be the temple mentioned in the travel records of the renowned 17th century Chinese travel writer and geographer Xu Xiake. Archeologists believe that further exploration of the site could yield precious information about the region's cultural development during the Ming Dynasty. http://www.cctvplus.com/news/20170115/8040864.shtml#!language=1 Subscribe us on Youtube: https://www.youtube.com/c/CCTVPlus CCTV+ official website: http://www.cctvplus.com/ LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/company/cctv-news-content Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/NewsContent.CCTVPLUS Twitter: https://twitter.com/CCTV_Plus

Li talked with farmers and pointed out that the revolution of China's grain circulation system must be promoted to help farmers benefit from the policy. When inspecting a resettlement program in Ganzhou, Li said that residents should be moved to new settlement as early as possible. He laid flowers at a monument for Red Army martyrs in Yeping Village and said that all Chinese should carry on the revolutionary tradition and stay true to the mission to make new progress. Li visited Ganzhou Funeng Company and, after an introduction of the customization of manufacturing equipment, he said that the new mode of production should be widely promoted to create a new momentum of the industry. At Lattice Power Company, Li expressed his hope that advanced science can be transformed into actual productivity to build up China's own brands. The innovative mechanism of the Zhonghangchangjiang Design Creative Park offers many employment opportunities for youth, Li said, adding that in a bid to solve the problem of graduate unemployment, pioneering work should be promoted. Li also visited a flood prevention project and said that through joint efforts of both citizens and the government, flood control projects had achieved success. The government should seize the opportunity to advance the construction of water conservancy projects and flood control projects so that residents can benefit from them. The premier praised the achievements Jiangxi Province has made in economic development and said that he hoped it can continue progress in poverty alleviation projects led by President Xi Jinping. The river and the Hangzhou Bay are known for the world's largest tidal bore. The oldest known tide table (AD 1056) is for the Qiantang River and may have aided ancient tourists wishing to see the famous tidal bore. The tide rushing into the river mouth from the bay causes a bore which can reach up to 9 metres (30 ft) in height, and travel at up to 40 km per hour (25 miles an hour). Known locally as the Silver (or Black) Dragon, the wave sweeps past Hangzhou, menacing shipping in the harbor. In August 2013, the tidal bore turned out stronger than expected due to Typhoon Trami, reaching more than twice its usual height as it broke on the flood barrier, sweeping it and injuring numerous spectators. There have been attempts to surf the tidal bore. The 1984 record was 11 seconds by Stuart Matthews. Then, in October 2007, a group of international surfers brought by Antony Colas, did several attempts, one wave being ridden continuously by French Patrick Audoy and Brazilian Eduardo Bagé for 1h10min, for 17 km. In September 2008 a group of American surfers convinced the Chinese government to allow them to surf a section of the river. In November 2013, Red Bull held the first surf competition on the river, called the Qiantang Shoot Out. The bore was considered the most unusual wave in the world for a surfing contest.
